The State of Recycling National Survey

Recycling challenges vary across the country, but, overall, states are failing to both reduce unnecessary waste and adjust to a changing recycling landscape, according to a new study from U.S. PIRG Education Fund and Environment America Research & Policy Center. The State Of Recycling U.S. National Survey looks at programs in Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Wisconsin, providing case studies and insight into specific issues that plague recycling efforts nationwide.

CALPIRG requests labeling for products with non-replaceable batteries

CalRecycle is holding a workshop on labeling requirements for products with batteries. CALPIRG wrote to request that consumer products be labeled as to whether or not the battery is replaceable, as too many modern products are made with no way to replace the battery making them essentially disposable. Last night the California state Legislature failed to act on the Plastic Pollution Reduction Act before they adjourned for the year. The landmark companion bills put California on a path to reducing single-use packaging and foodware by 75 percent by 2030.
