Statement on Planned Resignation of CFPB Director Rich Cordray

The following statement can be attributed to Ed Mierzwinski, Consumer Program Director, U.S. PIRG

“Richard Cordray helped establish, and then was confirmed as the first director of, the Consumer Bureau. Its accomplishments in making financial markets fair for consumers and families — in just over 6 years, while under constant, unfounded attacks from special interests — are simply incredible. The Bureau has recovered more than $12 billion for nearly 30 million consumers. Going forward, we hope that the President understands that the Bureau is wildly popular with Americans because it simply does its job and has the public’s backs. We wish the Director well.”
