California moves closer to banning single-use plastic packaging in online shopping
Your online shopping will no longer deliver extra plastic along with the product you ordered, if a CALPIRG-backed bill keeps advancing.
In late March, a key state legislative committee approved the bill that would ban single-use plastic packaging in online shopping. Testifying on the bill’s behalf, CALPIRG State Director Jenn Engstrom highlighted the health and environmental problems associated with plastic pollution.
“Especially with the growth of online shopping, we know consumers want alternative packaging that doesn’t pollute our environment, harm public health, or cost community resources cleaning up,” said Jenn at the committee hearing on March 21. “AB 2026 is an important and urgent bill aimed at addressing this problematic waste stream.”
The bill is just the latest step called for by CALPIRG to reduce plastic pollution. Our staff and members also helped win passage of the 2014 statewide plastic bag ban and the 2021 Truth in Recycling Law, among other measures.
