Despite heavy opposition from the major textbook publishers, the College Textbook Affordability Act, SB 832 (Corbett), sponsored by CALPIRG, passed out of the Assembly Higher Education Committee on a 6-1 vote and now heads to the Assembly Floor.

"We are deeply disappointed with Governor Schwarzenegger’s veto of SB 832. While we are pleased that the Governor acknowledged the importance of lower textbook prices, we are troubled by the reasons he gave for his veto.

Last week, California legislature passed an innovative bill, SB832, The College Textbook Affordability Act, aimed at reducing the costs of college textbooks. The bill will become law pending Governor Schwarzenegger's approval.
